Orthopaedic ball
Often called Swiss Ball

Sitting on a bouncy ball has been recommended by physicians to people with a damaged spinal column for a long time. It is also recommended for children, because it forces them into active sitting - which strengthening of the back and abdominal muscles.

We suggest this approach mainly for domestic settings but some do use in an office. We sell large balls for sitting on and ball chairs for both children and adults.

If you want the benefit of ball sitting in an offices we suggest the Spinalis (right).
SpinaliS
all models below

One of our senior partners has put a SpinaliS in front of his home computer, which is quite an accolade. Sitting on a SpinaliS chair imitates active sitting on a ball (see left) - it also strengthens back and abdominal muscles, tempting the sitter into active, alert posture and preventing atrophy of spinal muscles. Less pain is a normal result! We recommend this chair for active desk work.

If you do a lot of reclined sitting you might choose a model with a backrest, but we advise you contact us for advice first.
Conventional
"ergonomic" chairs

This (rather dramatic) image over-exaggerates the point, but we probably need to!. We want you to be aware that static sitting encourages the spine to slump and bend too much in the waist area. At Back in Action we train people to move at the hip joint instead of the lower back. The changes are amazing. We also find that passive sitting on fixed or barely moving seats causes weak muscles and can lead to big problems in time: pain, increased pressure on the intervertebral discs; stressed facet joints. Not exactly desirable!.

If in doubt about the best chair to choose, just contact us!

New Back in Action mattress gets rave reviews: respected journalist review October 2008 says, "it's a great design. Really comfy. Keeps me aligned all night. Retains body temperature, but doesn't over heat. I love the idea of going to bed and slightly resent having to get up. But when I do get up, I get up feeling relaxed rather than crumpled like a broken sparrow. Your beds are amazing. Really."
