Our Promise: We will only sell products we really like, and which work.

We eliminate some mattresses ... even from well known brands. We test them ourselves and with willing customers and we will advise against them if we believe they are designed badly. Our reputation is our life blood. If we like a Tempur Mattress we'll say so , if we don't like Tempur Mattresses we'll say so. We won't give in to commercial pressure or go for growth over integrity.

We get quite a lot of flak from suppliers over our honesty : most want us to toe the corporate line. Some threaten to withdraw our access to products if we don't let them approve our web pages first. We ask you to trust our opinion, and on some of our products we offer a 60 day home trial so that you can validate our skills.

Tempur Mattress Product Changes

We have Tempur mattresses in stock, but... If you have back or neck pain, it is essential to understand what's been happening to Tempur products so that you end up with what you are expecting to end up with.

In March 2007 Tempur decided to withdraw their Tempur 15cm, Tempur 20cm, Tempur 25cm and Tempur 22cm (deluxe) mattresses from all health orientated UK retailers. They also decided to change the Tempur 15cm, 20cm, 25cm and 22cm spec to make them more attractive to luxury bed customers.

At the same time Tempur refined and re-launched a mattress for people with back pain. Tempur decided that this mattress (called the Tempur 14cm) could only be sold via health specialists. Back in Action were sent a trial 14cm mattress but after several weeks in our showroom our staff and customers voted it uncomfortable and unsuitable. We told Tempur of our findings, and that we didn't like the mattress. We asked Tempur if they had sent us a faulty mattress, and they confirmed that it was correct.

At that point Tempur refused all further orders from Back in Action unless and until we signed a retailer agreement for the 14cm mattress. However, Back in Action lives by its reputation for honesty and we decided that we could not sign up for a mattress which we felt would damage our reputation. Shortly after we rejected the 14cm agreement, Tempur made the decision to remove us completely as a dealer, and they have subsequently turned down our request to sell their pillows... Sometimes honesty carries a heavy price... Although we are still selling genuine Tempur products from stock, Tempur have withdrawn permission for us to use their logos and images. We're sorry for any confusion this may cause our customers.

Tempur for back pain still available from Back in Action

If you've got back pain, we have some good news. Back in Action is a substantial company with strong cash reserves. We used our financial strength to buy a large quantity of Tempur's pre-change 2007 mattresses. We bought and put into stock approximately £500k of Tempur's pre-change mattresses; obviously we think you should buy ours, rather than the luxury versions of Tempur in the shops today.

Can you trust our opinion?... Well, we're the largest back care retailer in the UK. Back in Action sold over 5000 of Tempur's 2005/6/7 mattresses, making us one of the leading Tempur suppliers. We still have the original (pre March 2007) Tempur Mattress versions, on display in our Amersham store.

We are now in a position to compete directly with Tempur... offering a vital product for people with back pain.

When we bought in the huge volume of Tempur mattresses, we did this to ensure that people with back-pain would still have access to Tempur's pre-March 2007 mattresses. We were really aware how much our back pain customers would suffer when these mattresses ran out. We set to work to develop a replacement mattresses which would allow us to continue helping those with back-pain. The result... a fantastic new mattress for those with back pain which comes with a 60-day trial.

We don't deny that Tempur's new luxury mattresses are of very high quality and we understand Tempur's explanation that their future lies in the luxury bed retail market. Back in Action continue to offer luxury bed products, but we recognise that our strength lies in combining comfort and health-care. In-store reaction to our new mattress has been exceptional.

Back in Action customers tend to spend between 40 minutes and 2 hours testing mattresses in our stores. They make intelligent choices, helped by expert staff. To ensure Back in Action customers get unbiased advice, we do not pay our staff commission. We choose staff and attract staff who like helping people.
