The Robomow is designed to mow domestic lawns lawn... completely by itself. It is designed to be used on any lawn which can be cut safely by a traditional petrol or electric walking mower, irrespective of the shape and slopes of the garden, obstacles and type of grass.
It's true that the Robomow requires a one time simple set-up, but this is easily done, typically in the time it would take to mow your lawn properly. A standard electric wire (supplied) is laid close to the outer edges of the lawn. Robomow recognizes the wire using a special sensor, and cuts the whole area inside it plus approximately one foot outside the wire. Robomow cannot go outside this area as it requires a positive signal from the wire. Robomow also takes a short while to orientate itself to the earths magnetic field. In all cases you'd expect it to be mowing within a few hours, after which yearly maintenance is a small fraction of that required for normal mowers.
The wire and pegs are supplied with the unit. The wire is connected to the Charging Station or to a small battery powered current source called a Perimeter Switch. Typically the wire and pegs will be covered by grass and become unnoticeable in a matter of 2-3 weeks. Robomow is able to cover large lawns of up to 2000m˛ with the RL1000. It can read the signal of the perimeter wire even when it is up to 25 meters away from the nearest perimeter wire. The perimeter wire can be as long as 500 meter in one loop.

The RM400 is almost identical to the RM200. It the same size, looks the same, has exactly the same features, but what you get for a little bit more money is a docking station. You won’t need to worry about bring this mower in after it finished mowing, or taking it out when you want it to start. This mower will dock and charge automatically after every mow and will then follow a weekly program and automatically go out to mow at the designated times.
