What is Tempur?
The TEMPUR pressure relieving Mattress and Pillow was a breakthrough in the 1990's. All expertise now agrees that the mattress should conform to the body - and not the other way around.

Since 2001 there are many other pressure-reliving mattresses and pillows. Tempur is still one of the leading brands, and worth considering if you are seeking a Luxury mattresss, however in 2008 there are better and cheaper mattresses if you are seeking to beat back pain or neck pain.

How do Visco-mattresses Work? (including Tempur)
Visco-mattresses consist of open, self ventilating cells which sense the body temperature and weight and adapt to the body in seconds. The reason we toss and turn during the night is that the pressure build-up sends a signal to our brain that tells us to move. Whether the visco mattress is Tempur, or another brand, the pressure-relief decreases tossing and turning is reduced by 60%+. It's important to realise that a mattress can offer good pressure relief, yet still offer awful support for those with back pain. Is Tempur worth the money?
Tempur products aren't cheap. Tempur material is expensive to produce and so the price of their products may come as a shock. Certainely, Tempur is recommended by back specialists all over the world. Over 30,000 medical doctors, chiropractors, physiotherapists and osteopaths recommend the Tempur Mattress and Neck Pillow. They firmly believe in the value of the Tempur Material to ease and prevent back and neck problems, as well as providing the best conditions for a good night's sleep.

However it's important to realise that most of the published recommendations were made about older versions of Tempur (pre-2007). Tempur recently made some large scale product changes in the UK (details).

We suggest you treat recommendations to use Tempur mattresses as if they were a recommendation to use a suitable visco mattress. Most medical recommendations don't seem to be up-to-date.
